About the Jazz Harp Festival & Academy
The Jazz Harp Academy is the main educational activity of the International Jazz Harp Foundation.
The first edition of the Jazz Harp Academy was held in Rotterdam in 2010.
Jazz harpists on the faculty were Park Stickney & Edmar Castaneda.
At the invitation of Louisiana State University, the second edition of the Jazz Harp Academy, in 2011, was held at their institute in Baton Rouge, hosted by harp teacher Kimberly Houser. On the faculty: Park Stickney, Carol Robbins, and others. (info, program book download).
For the 2013 edition, we decided to organize the Academy under the umbrella of a Jazz Harp Festival, broadening the reach and expanding the range of possibilities to learn and enjoy for a larger group of insrumentalists and harp lovers.
The main aims of the Jazz Harp Foundation: advancing education, promoting artists and performance, and developing audiences are all represented in this format.
The 2016 edition will be held in collaboration with the Dutch Harp Festival. Thus, the previously planned Jazz Harp Festival will become a Jazz Harp Academy with intensive courses and workshop, while the jazz harp concerts will be available within the Dutch Harp Festival programming.
Also, in 2016 an extended version of the Jazz Harp Academy took place in Brazil: the Brazilian Jazz Harp Immersion. This 10-day event was a co-production between the JHF and Brazilian jazz harpist Cristina Braga, and was held on her Uaná Etê Music Garden retreat near Rio de Janeiro.
